Kadal Conclave 2026 Held in Kollam

Kadal Conclave 2026, organised by the Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP), was held on January 7 at Thirumullavaram, Kollam, with the objective of discussing the holistic development of fishing communities and deliberating on the challenges and solutions related to marine resources and the fisheries sector.
The conclave began with a welcome address by Ms. Agnes John, Chairperson, FCDP. Rev. Fr. Saji elambassery SDB, Director, FCDP–TMS, delivered the introductory address, while the programme was presided over by Rev. Fr. Stephen Mukkattil SDB.
During the inaugural session, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Antony Mullassery, Bishop of Kollam Diocese, delivered the inaugural message. This was followed by the key message presented by Mr. Shibu Baby John. The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Divya S. Iyer IAS, Managing Director, VISL.
Across various sessions, experts elaborated on critical issues such as the conservation of marine resources, livelihood and employment challenges in the fisheries sector, sustainable fishing practices, and the impacts of climate change on coastal communities.
The concluding session was inaugurated by Mr. T. Thomas Isaac, former Finance Minister of Kerala. In his address, he emphasised the importance of sustainable utilisation of marine resources and the need to ensure the social and economic security of fishing communities.
The organisers stated that Kadal Conclave 2026 played a significant role in enhancing awareness among students and youth about marine and fisheries issues, while also creating space for meaningful policy-oriented dialogue.
