Through the Path of Hope: Awareness Class for Children

An awareness class for children was organised on September 19 in connection with World Suicide Prevention Day under the leadership of the Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) and Don Bosco Children’s Forum. The class began at 2:00 p.m. at the FCDP Hall and was led by Ms. Merlin Solomon, Mental Health Counsellor from the District Hospital. Around 50 children actively participated in the class, which was based on the theme “Healthy Mind and Hopeful Life.”

The children were introduced to the mental and physical changes that occur during adolescence, ways to identify these changes, and effective methods to cope with problems during this stage through stories and various activities. Through the activities, the children also understood the importance of openly sharing their problems and emotions with people they trust. The class also explained ways to protect mental health, face challenges with confidence, and approach life with hope. The class concluded at around 4:00 p.m.
