Teachers Equipped with Salesian Pedagogy at CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga

A one-day intensive training programme on Salesian Pedagogy was conducted at CHITHRA Don Bosco Campus, Chitradurga, Karnataka, for the teachers of Don Bosco ICSE and CBSE Schools, bringing together 96 educators for a renewed reflection on the educational vision and mission inspired by Saint John Bosco.

Fr. Jaimon Pulinilkumkalayil, Principal of Don Bosco ICSE School, introduced the resource person, Fr. John Parankimalil, Secretary of the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) and the All India Don Bosco Education Society (AIDBES). The inaugural session was attended by Fr. Felix Serrao, Rector Designate of CHITHRA Don Bosco, and Fr. George Vellakadayil, Principal of Don Bosco CBSE School, Chitradurga.

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in sessions covering contemporary educational theories and practical teaching approaches. Key topics included teaching as the art of imparting values, knowledge, and skills; the influence of teachers on student behaviour; learning cycles and teaching skills; different types of learners; the Pyramid of Learning; and principles of effective learning.

The training also introduced participants to major psychological and educational theories, including Roger Sperry’s Split-Brain Theory, Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Theory, Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence Theory, and Edward de Bono’s concept of Lateral Thinking.

Teachers appreciated the programme for its effective blend of theoretical insights and practical applications. The training concluded with a renewed commitment among educators to serve not merely as instructors, but as mentors, guides, and compassionate companions to the young people entrusted to their care.
